Critical Analysis of the Heart of Darkness

In the present day context, the philosophy of Joseph Connard enlightens the truth of society for all time. I am going to offer two analogy of this brilliant novella and it’s up to you to decide which one you prefer, as the visionary storyteller Connard plunged deep inside the human psyche and examines the relativeness of morality and ethics of our civilization.

First  Analogy-

The elusive Mr. Kurtz resembled modern-day America, he was the envoy of colonialism and imperialism at the heart of primitive earth who by his social skills, education and technology subjugated the natives and acquired a god-like stature among them.
In present day scenario U.S.A was somewhat related to Kurtz and all the people from the third world countries represents the natives still shackled to the pole of culture, religion, and poverty look up to the self-proclaimed god of free will and modern society of America and try to follow its ideals in every aspect of their life.

Second Analogy-

As for Mr. Marlow ‘s character we Indians or the developing countries like us can represent him, we are on a long journey to reach near mr.kurtz and analyze his successes in our scrutiny , but after a long terrifying and enigmatic journey through darkness of our conscious we reached a position where we admire him and hate him altogether. At the deathbed of our great dream, we came face to face with the reality of modern society and it’s free will.
The second analogy requires deep insight and philosophical imagination I think (it may be wrong) that mr.kurtz and Mr. Marlow are not the different person but equal and same person, where one was consciousness and another subconscious of the single colonial mind.
The depiction was quite unrealistic but not impossible, keeping in mind their suffering and realization of true wisdom of life at the heart of the profound wilderness, their emotional bond and revelation to the horror proved this analytical approach.
We all think consciously that we all have a great plan for our life so we move on conquering and looting from weaker section of the human race, but our sub-conscious follow us to the end aspiring true purpose of life reminding us our true home and wisdom. That’s why we admire and hate ourselves altogether. Despite his protestations, this is undeniably an invaluable historical document offering a glimpse into the horrific human consequences of the imperial powers scramble for Africa as much as it is a compelling tale.
