The Revenant a Tale of Perseverance and Redemption

The Revenant is a 2015 American semi-biographical epic western film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The screenplay by Mark L. Smith and Iñárritu is based in part on Michael Punke's 2002 novel of the same name, describing frontiersman Hugh Glass's experiences in 1823. That novel is in turn based on the 1915 poem The Song of Hugh Glass.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, and Will Poulter. It’s a tour de force of visual storytelling which epitomized the grandeur of light and shadows in correlation with the narrative. It’s a tale of vengeance, endurance, and deliverance. Alejandro G. Iñárritu crafted a tale with sublime vistas and windswept mountain ranges to manifest a frontier tale of ragged heroism and survival it enriched with skilled craftsmanship and originated suspense and tension through intricate cuts.
The Revenant uses Leonardo DiCaprio’s committed performance as fuel for an absorbing drama that offers punishing challenges and rich rewards. Iñárritu may have fashioned The Revenant as the ultimate endurance test, but as Glass, DiCaprio simply endures. He gives the movie a beating heart, offering it up, figuratively speaking, alive and bloody on a platter.
It-he is the most visceral effect in the movie. He was absolutely magnificent in his portrayal of Hugh glass, each of his expression and grunt oozing with agony and a determination to survive. In another way, DiCaprio grunts his way to Oscar. His flabbergasting performance projected a tragic hero with battered conscience haunted by the phantoms of his dead wife.
The famous bear mauling sequence shot as one single long take was one such distinctive point where the vivid manifestation of agony and striving in exuberated expressions of DiCaprio rejuvenated the movie with a beating heart.
The cinematography by Immanuel Lubezki encapsulated the phantom and agony of the protagonist with enduring visual aesthetics. From the silhouette amid orange hued ambers to the bison skull pillars each frame was categorically molded for optimized optical flamboyancy. As starkly beautiful as it is harshly uncompromising.

The DP Lubezki purposefully took advantage of snow swept valleys and the shed of twilight to brought forth some of the sublime shots in cinema history. For the sake of visual beauty and its expressionist style, the movie stretched for extra 30minutes and hit some shallow patches in its free-flowing narrative. Apart from that, it’s a story worthy of exploring, a tale of survival, vengeance, and redemption.

Guys watch it for it’s a tale full of sound and fury with some brutal authentic acting at its helm which could leave you with an aching heart and wonderstruck eyes. At the 88th Academy Awards, the film received 12 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Hardy, with Iñárritu, DiCaprio and Emmanuel Lubezki winning the awards for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Cinematography, respectively.

If you haven't watched this movie, I highly recommend it.
I am going with 8.5/10 for this story worthy of exploring, a tale of survival, vengeance, and redemption.
